What is the Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector?

This is a true 4G network personal mobile alarm that is used as an aid to secure your independence, whilst providing peace of mind to you and your loved ones. You can take this alarm with you everywhere, similar to a prepaid mobile phone, but more discreet and without the complications. When activated, using the 4G Mobile network, it will alert your loved ones that you need help. If you drop out of 4G and into a 3G zone, this alarm will also work.

What is the difference between the 4G and the 3G?

As the technology improves, the government closes down the older network. They will eventually close down 3G – which is why we have developed and released the 4G model early. We are the first and only provider of the true 4G alarm. Can I claim this on my NDIS?

Yes! We are the first NDIS approved provider for personal alarms. If you are an NDIS participant then please fill out our enquiry form and one of our helpful team will be in contact. We will need your NDIS details so that we can lodge your service booking, or alternatively we can email you a quote if it needs approval from your Plan Manager/OT first.

Do I need the NBN or WIFI or a mobile phone?

No. The Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector is a standalone device using its own SIM card. It has no bearing on any other device/NBN or network. It is similar to a mobile phone in that it uses a SIM card (already included) and uses the mobile network – so it will work anywhere – and you can call out on the device and people can call you – but it is discreet, easy to operate and can be worn in the shower.

How do I wear the Medi Alarm?

We supply a standard lanyard so that you can wear your Medi Alarm as a pendant around your neck. You can also wear it on your arm with an optional wristband accessory or on your blouse or shirt or pant pocket with the belt clip accessory – ask us for details!

How does it work and what happens when the alarm goes off?

When you need help in an emergency, simply either press the SOS button, or if you have a serious fall, the alarm will activate on its own. When pressed or if a fall is sensed, it will text all listed mobile numbers (you can have up to 8 contacts) your GPS location on a google map, as well as calling each number in sequence. It then opens Two-Way communication for you to alert your loved ones of your situation. If you are unconscious, the text messages are there to alert the contacts of where you are. You can even list 000! Please note that 000 cannot receive a text from any Medi Alarm, mobile phone, person, device etc – they only accept calls.

How will my contacts know if I need help?

When the alarm is activated by pressing the SOS button (or if a Fall is detected), your listed mobile contacts will receive a text message all at the same time with your name and a help me request as well as your GPS location on a google map link with a pin drop. The calling sequence will then begin by calling each number one at a time until the call is acknowledged and your contacts can talk to you through the device.

What if I set it off by accident?

If you have a false alarm, that is ok. You can stop the calling sequence by simply pressing the SOS button again. You cannot stop the texts as these go out automatically at the same time to all mobile numbers.

What does my Contact do when they receive my alert?

When they receive the call and answer, they will hear a voice prompt telling them that your Medi Alarm is calling and for them to press ‘1’ on their keypad. This acknowledges the call, telling the Medi Alarm PRO that it has reached a real person, and stops the alarm from calling the others listed. It is also a handy feature as if they miss the call, or if it goes to their voicemail, the Medi Alarm PRO will call the next person on the list and so on until it has the ‘1’ button pressed by the call received for acknowledgement.

Are you a monitoring service?

Medi Alarm is NOT a monitoring service. Our device calls your contacts directly. You can also list 000 on your Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector if you wish, and most clients list this last. It is a good idea to also work out your own emergency plan with your listed contacts that they can also call 000 on your behalf if you are unconscious. By not paying high fees to a monitoring service (who would only call your family and friends and 000 anyway) you are able to save money whilst also enjoying your freedom by not being locked into contracts. Please note that 000 does not accept texts from any persons mobile/personal alarm/ other device etc.

Does it use a Mobile Phone Network?

The Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector is similar to a prepaid mobile phone in that it uses a SIM card and works where a mobile phone would. We recommend a $15 PAYG (pay as you go) optionwith a 12 month expiry as this is more than efficient if the device is being used for emergencies only.

Generally this will be more than enough to last you the 12 months, as this is for emergencies only. When you place an order, our team will set the included SIM card up for you and apply prepaid credit, we will then email you the login details with instructions on how to check on and top up the prepaid credit in the future.

Alternatively, if you do not want this brand, please advise our team as the Medi Alarm PRO 4G can take any SIM card – although those costs may be higher.

Can I change the numbers?

Yes, anyone with a mobile phone can change or adjust the settings very easily by sending the device a text message with a listed command prompt from the manual. We can program your device initially. We strongly urge you to please read your instructions BEFORE using the device. If you need help with changes, please consult your manual and for anything else, please contact our Tech on 0434 093 118 or info@medialarm.com.au during business hours EST. Please note that frequent changes or tests will use up the prepaid credit quicker,

Can I have 000?

Yes, your Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector can have a maximum of 8 contacts, you can include 000 if you wish, most people have this last in case of a false alarm. Please be aware that only mobile numbers will receive the help text and GPS location. If no one on your list has answered when your alarm has been activated, and it reaches 000 (if you have 000 programmed) they may trace the call. However, the best idea is to have a few mobiles listed before as they will receive the text and if they can’t hear you then they can alert 000 of your location.

Is it Waterproof?

Yes, your Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector is water resistant, you can wear it in the shower or if you get caught in the rain. It cannot be immersed in a pool or the ocean or bath etc.

How big is it?

The Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector is a stylish and discreet black pendant that is very comfortable to wear. It has the weight of 4 x 20cent coins and fits in the palm of your hand and the dimensions are 45.9mm x 47.9mm x 19mm and weight is 56grams.. It comes supplied with a lanyard, or you can thread it onto a necklace or belt buckle or even a keyring if you prefer. Ask us about our optional wristband and belt accessories.

How does the Fall Detection work?

The built in fall detector detects a sudden change in angle and motion. The device will then activate and start the alarm sequence, sending out SOS texts to all mobiles at the same time with your location on a google map link. It then will call each contact one at a time until the call is acknowledged. If you are unconscious and they cannot hear you on the line, they can alert 000 to your location if needed. This feature is very handy as it has different sensitivity levels that can be customized to your daily life. This feature can also be turned off if required.

How do I set up the SIM card?

Every Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector comes with a supplied a mobile SIM card and $20 prepaid credit that has already been installed in the device for you. We can arrange SIM card activation for you. For Phone orders, we will ask you for your details for an identity check necessary to activate the SIM. For Online orders, one of our team will be in contact via email and/or phone to arrange this.

How do I install this device?

There is no installation necessary! Everything is done in our office for you before we express post your device. You will need to switch your device on outside for 10 minutes so that it can connect to your local satellite for the first time, and then put on charge for 3 hours for the first time. After that it should be charged every 1 – 3 days for an hour. We recommend putting the charger cradle on your bedside table.

I’m worried that the battery would go flat and I wouldn’t know?

This nifty device has a built in screen where you can easily view the battery status. We also program your Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector with a low battery indicator so that it sends the listed contacts a text message automatically if the battery falls below 30%. This setting is automatically programmed for you but can also be switched off.

How long will the battery last?

You can usually get 2-3 days but it depends on your activity levels as the GPS is constantly updating the satellite. Most clients feel comfortable with putting the charger cradle next to their bed so that it is easily accessible. It only takes an initial 3 hours to charge when you first get it, and then usually an hour to do a full charge thereafter. It won’t hurt your device if you leave it in the charger cradle overnight, and most people prefer to charge it once a day so they do not forget.

Can people call me through my pendant and can I call out even if it’s not an emergency?

Yes, your listed contacts can call you and it will answer automatically and this will be charged like a normal mobile phone call paid by them. You can dial out if you wish but we do not recommend this as it will use your $15 prepaid credit if you are using it often. If you want to use the speed dial feature, you just press the top yellow button on the right side of the pendant and you can scroll through the list and choose who you would like to call.

What happens if the listed contacts have voicemail enabled?

The Medi Alarm PRO 4G Fall Detector will keep dialing each number until the receiver of the call presses 1 on their phone to acknowledge the call and end the sequence- this tells the device that it has done its job. Some voicemails can be up to 5 minutes in length and it is a good idea to have your contacts either shorten their voicemail by speaking to their phone provider, or have a voice to text call catcher, or even consider switching off voicemail.

How is it delivered?

We utilize Australia Post Express Post yellow parcel satchels. We include this as a part of our great offer. We will text you your tracking number so that you can track your parcel. Once we lodge your parcel with Australia Post, they are responsible for your delivery and unfortunately we cannot give them special instructions. If you are not there to receive it, the Postie may leave it in a safe location or take it back to the Post Office for collection.

Do you charge any ongoing fees or subscriptions or contracts?

No! You own the device outright! You only need to add the a mobile $15 PAYG (pay as you go) prepaid credit each year which has an expiry of 12 months.
